The old man was rather upset by the results of the last mission. Apparently, ten of these soldiers was supposed to make a difference. He knew better, though. As much as the king tried to protest, Steeler insisted on them going along. They'd just get in his way, though.

Having tracked this one for a while, they'd concluded there was a limited time left before he left the country. As the van parked, Lordgenome was the first out, unclipping his cloak and tossing it in the face of one of the men, who threw the oversized garment back in the vehicle. Eight men came out of the back, two more coming from up front. Five on each side, Lorgenome was in the middle; no doubt a shield as well as the muscle. Pitiful.

Resting near the dark Atlantic sea, Almos Lorand sat with a single leg draped over the edge of the cliff face overlooking the churning waters and jagged rocks below. Inhaling deeply, he tried his best to relax to no avail. He was never fond of the sea as a boy, his experiences in adulthood had only served to sour his opinion of the water. Beside him, the large sword of a now deceased cyborg woman was stabbed into the ground. It was bulky and unwieldy but he was somewhat fond of the design and had decided to hang onto it a while as a sort of memento of his experience in the States. At least until he tossed it into the sea. Leaning back with his palms braced against the dry grass of the hill leading to the sudden drop where he was relaxing, Almos briefly considered climbing down the cliff face to the secluded cave hidden near the tide where he had been spending the last few days and just sleep away this restless feeling.

Before he could dispose of the idea himself, a strange sound rang in his ears. An engine block and the sound of a small group moving about nearby. Glancing back, Almos could just make out the image of a van parked near the base of the hill over a hundred yards off. Almost no one had wandered up here since Almos had taken up residence so the sudden appearance of these guys was odd to say the least. Smirking, Lorand hauled himself to his feet and slid one hand into his pocket, using the other arm to lean against the Gold Saw while observing the sea a bit more. These Americans really didn't learn did they? Just another mass of lambs to the slaughter.

Cracking his neck, Lordgenome began to stroll aimlessly around, the soldiers following closely behind, guns at the ready. It amused him to see them this on edge from just one vampire. So what if he killed two of their people? He could do that himself without even using his arms. As the cliff came into view, he spotted the man; he assumed it was him, at least, since not many regular people could use such a ridiculous weapon. "There he is. Now, impress me." He pointed to the top of the hill to show the men where he was. Though confused and a bit irritated at being ordered by this criminal, it was there mission. With that in mind, the ten guards charged the man, weapons firing, since they were meant to take him dead. The Spiral King only sneered from behind. He gave them all of thirty seconds before they ended up dead.

Almos cocked a brow, they were already firing on him from that distance while running? At the very least the last soldier had a good head on his shoulders. Emphasis on had. These poor simpletons wouldn't hit the broad side of the barn shooting like that. The stray shots that did come near enough to pose a risk bounced harmlessly off the Black Gold Saw that Almos had pulled in front of himself, flat side to the enemy. That's it, a little more, a little closer... Lorand thought as the guards approached. As they reached a more dangerous range their accuracy skyrocketed, forcing Lorand to activate his crimson sphere to deflect the blessed ammunition. He have the men just enough time to consider what it was he had done before the vampire did a short spin to build momentum and let the massive sword fly, hurling it like a buzzsaw at the center of the back. Four men who had unwisely chosen to advance right next to one another, were instantly bisected as the blade passed by. Another lost his dominant weapon arm at the shoulder and dropped cradling the badly bleeding stump.

This was going better than expected; only half of them died in the initial attack. As one man bled out, the others, shaken as they were, continued to fire and advance, reloading at different times to keep up a steady stream of attack. As the Gold Saw came tumbling and scraping to a halt on the ground, Lordgenome approached it to examine the weapon. A strange blade, for sure. Lifting the piece of metal, he gave it a look before tossing it with all his might over the cliff. No need for that thing to get involved. Considering the other five would be dead sooner than later, he began to stroll up to where the action was, slipping off his sandals as he went. He even considered removing his pants, but that didn't seem necessary yet.

There were merits to firing in turns. It meant that at least somebody was always firing while the others reloaded. The downside was that it meant not everyone was firing and to dodge the gunfire from only a weapon or two, even automatic, was child's play to a vampire of Almos' standing. Jolting towards the remaining soldiers in a zigzaging serpentine pattern, Lorand wove his way around the bullets and let Enkidu fly, the spike piercing a soldier just below the Adam's apple before tossing him at a comrad who was just about to begin firing. The slight disruption in the firing rotation was the last opening Almos needed, reaching melee range to cleave open a man's throat and angle Enkidu to stab through that other one's throat a bit deeper in order to reach the throat of his friend. Only two gunmen left. Retracting Enkidu, the vampire swept it low, knocking one of them off his feet and impaling him to the ground. Surprisingly, the fifth managed to hop over it and advanced the last few steps to enter into Almos' territory. Evidently giving up on ballistics, the masked soldier swung his rifle as a blunt weapon. He had bravery at the very least. One wild swing, another swing from the soldier and...smack. A backhanded stroke beat the weapon out of the man's hands and a swift return stroke with the fingertips pointing in tore off his face.

Sighing, Almos licked the blood off his hands as the faceless hero dropped to the grass twitching. The only one left to socialize with now was the hulking bald freak approaching from the van. Probably another "special member" of the organization the soldier and cyborg had belonged to. Pronouncing his hands sufficiently clean, Almos returned them to his pockets and smiled at the giant. "I've been called a brute in my time but you just sat back and watched your escorts run straight into their own coffins. Your friends from Connecticut must be rolling over in their graves."

And there they went. In no time at all, the last of the pests lay dead on the ground. He continued his approach, not bothering to increase in speed. "Friends, you say? What would a king need with friends?" Judging by the speed and strength of this one, he was a bit stronger than the usual lot he had to deal with - promising. Wasting time could get him hurt, so he decided to use his full power from the start. Crouching slightly, his eyes bulged and his lips spread into a wide grin. As the red appeared in his eyes, flames spread across his head as a hearty laugh bellowed out of him. He was ready to start this fight.

Flashing a toothy smirk with plenty of fang for all to see, Almos made no move to retreat from the hulking bear man advancing on him. Rather, he remained seemingly calm in the face of such aggression and actually took a step forward to shift the weight in his stance. "You're almost as arrogant as the horned woman. I wonder how many pieces I'll wind ripping you into," the vampire mused, never removed his hands from his pockets. Surprises abounded tonight though as the bald man revealed a hidden power of his own, otherwordly flames erupting from his scalp as his bulging eyes became crimson. Chuckling out loud, Almos couldn't believe his luck. It wasn't often that he met someone with knowledge of pagan forces as obscure as those of the Nazca lines but to actually find a person with this strong a connection was incredible. "Been to Peru lately? What kind of king sells his soul to kiss the feet a half dead cult?" the former monk asked the flame-headed man, advancing until he was within arm's reach of the brute. Forced to angle his head upward in order to look the so-called king in the eye, Almos cocked his head to the side. With his smug grin still in place, the Hungarian winked at the bearded cultist, trying to incite a bit of anger.

"The choice was not my own to make. I plan to take myself back from those pathetic creatures, but my priority now is to kill you." Drawing back his fist, he released it like a missile headed for the man's head. Afterwards, he would attempt to smash his toes with a stomp and uppercut him after. This was merely a test, though, to see the extent of the vampire's powers. Hopefully, he would surprise him and be a worth opponent. If not, he'd just be a stain on the grass like the rest.

"You're welcome to try pauper," the vampire said, eager to instill as much anger as possible. Rage was a powerful weapon, Almos himself was living proof of that but when unrefined it was merely a handicap. This bearded oaf had an ego as large as his muscles, a good sign that such a slight would egg him on in just the way Almos intended. The first stroke was horribly telegraphed. There was obviously power behind the blow but without speed to match it meant nothing and was evaded with a simple turn of the head and shoulders. Dodging the followup stomp by the narrowest of margins, Almos simply shifted his targeted foot backwards in his stance. However, with the vast majority of his weight now on his front leg, he had no real way to evade the final uppercut and removing his hands from his pockets would take to long to made a block an effective option. The only thing left to try was to lessen the damage. Pushing off his front leg, Almos hopped into the air as the uppercut came in. With his chin rising in the same direction as the punch, the strike landed past the optimal point of release and the lack of resistance also played a roll in softening the blow further. That being said, Almos definitely felt that one. Had this battle occured a few months ago this brute may have very well been his physical equal if not better. Now however, Almos had the power to respond in kind and then some. As he was knocked even higher upward, he brought his knees up without hesitation to chest level and kicked out with both of them at the center of Lordgenome's chest. He wouldn't be able to get any body weight behind it but the raw strength of his legs was certainly nothing to scoff at.

It was pleasurable to see this pompous vampire launched into the air. The kick that followed, however, was decidedly less enjoyable. Tumbling back, the Spiral King rolled with the blow, landing back in a kneeling position before rising up. His chest hurt, but it was nothing he couldn't deal with. Stomping towards his opponent, he was prepared for whatever trickery might come about in this fight. He'd half listened to a lecture about a chain weapon, the dead cyborg's cameras having recorded everything from the previous encounter. He payed it no mind, though; a weapon was for the weak, and he was less than worried.

Landing squarely on his back, Almos hopped back to his feet and rubbed his jaw a bit. Odd though they may be, these Americans were surprisingly fun to play with. Flashing another winning smirk, the vampire sped forward towards the recovering giant with his hands finally removed from his pockets. Bringing his right hand back as if to throw a haymaker, the Hungarian attempted to bluff the giant and dropped into a low slide along the grass feet first. Considering how bloody tall the bearded man was in conjunction with Almos' low evasive maneuver, he should be able to pass between Lordgenome's legs with some momentum to spare. Before recovering from the slide through the legs (should it prove successful) Almos would attempt to inflict a bit of pain on his attacker. His right hand would make a swipe for the giant's left thigh while Lorand's left would take a swing with his chain's spike at the Spiral King's right thigh. The ideal was a pair of severed femoral arteries and heavy blood loss but if he could at least impede the flame headed fool's agility a bit then all the better.

Raising up his left arm to guard against the imminent attack, he was somewhat surprised when it turned into a slide. Might as well make the best of a bad situation he thought, attempting to actually sit on the vampire as he slid by. The vampire's hand and chain cut him, though closer to his shins than his thighs. As the cursed metal came up, he attempted to grab it and ignore the pain coming from his legs. They'd certainly be problematic if he needed to chase this man, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.

Two cuts, that was certainly satisfying even if he'd hit the giant a bit lower on the leg than planned. Breaking the plan further, Almos was not to pleased to suddenly feel his left arm become pinned under the big oaf. The bearded idiot had managed to grab a hold of Enkidu's links just below the spike and the sudden snag had draw Lorand's left appendage back far enough to be caught underneath Lordgenome when he sat down. Snarling in rage, Almos decided to through whatever vestiges of fair play he had left to the wayside and start really fighting dirty. With his left arm pinned beneath the giant just below the elbow, he simply reached back by bending his wrist to try and grab hold of the Spiral King's groin. More than happy to attack the man's most sensitive region, Lorand planned to completely crush the tender reproductive organs in the palm of his hand while he attacked the King's lower back with his free right hand. Using a spearhand, a favorite of the Hungarians, Almos would thrust it back over his head and shoulder (considering he was currently lying on his left side) to impale the pagan behemoth in the right side of his lower back, hopefully damaging his liver and other vital organs.

Taking advantage of the chain, as well as to demonstrate the foolishness of using weapons, he attempted to plunge the spiked end into the vampire's hand (not a moment too soon, if he'd allowed the attack to happen). He couldn't guard against the stab, though, and felt a surge of pain go through his back. He couldn't tell what had been hit, but from the pain inside him, it had been mildly important, maybe a kidney, but he had two the last time he checked, so he could live without it. It would be harder to ignore that injury, but he'd have to work through it. Calming himself, he tensed his back muscles to try and keep the creature's hand inside him for just a bit longer. He did this to make room for his next attack; smashing at the man's elbow to break his arm.

"You're more formidable than I first thought," he complimented, being legitimately impressed at the vampire's skill. This kind of fight was what he'd been looking for, the only reason he even stayed with this group of fools. Out of the corner of his eye, he remembered the cliff, and thought of a new plan of attack, grinning with more intensity.

This man dared to try and turn Enkidu against him? The audacity was overwhelming. It would be a cold day in Hell before Lorand allowed his precious memento to be fully used against him. A sharp twist from the chain on Almos' unspoken command turned the spike 90 degrees and ensured that the vampire's hand would not be staked to the ground. However, the blow from the hand holding the chain was unavoidable at this point, the heavy fist smashing into Lorand's palm that lay flat against the ground. The power behind the bald man's fists was impressive, otherwordly even, and he could painfully feel the small bones in his left hand shatter under the giant's punch. Transforming pain into fury, Almos responded to the Spiral King's attempts to trap his right hand in typical fashion. If the bearded man wanted the hand so badly he could have it. But in return the Hungarian would have his pound of flesh.

Spreading his fingers wide inside of the Spiral King, Almos rapidly rotated his hand in a half turn clockwise before gripping down into a tight fist. He could feel warm tissue in his grip bet had no way to know what it was. Regardless, whatever the vampire had managed to grab a hold of would be ravaged beyond repair and exerting. Determined to free himself, Almos made no attempts to counter the giant's elbow breaking technique, violently rolling his hand and tearing at the American's insides until his arm was broken at the joint. The moment that the fool opened his mouth to speak, Lorand was on his again. Between the immeasurable pain the man must be in from having his insides ravaged and his apparent preoccupation with banter and the cliff side, he would most likely be unable to notice the swift kick from the vampire's right leg sent up at the back of his head. Leading with the top of his heavy boot, Almos poured enough vampiric strength into the kick to kill a normal man. Even if it didn't kill this behemoth (he knew it wouldn't) at the very least it should have enough force to knock the Spiral King forward and free his trapped left arm. From there a push off the Americans' back would hopefully send Almos rolling down the hill. Undignified, but if he could get back to his feet and get back to the matter of showing this man his entrails then so be it.

PostSubject: Re: Maine   Maine EmptyFri Jul 05, 2013 8:28 pm

This chain was irritating. It almost seemed alive, but no matter; he'd managed to take out the hand anyway. His arm might have been broken, but the Spiral King had a steep price to pay for accomplishing that. With the new pain, he decided it was most probably his kidney being smashed after all. He'd have to take this guy down before he started loosing too much blood. Not too distracted by his plotting, he was able to react to the kick, but not as well as he'd wanted. He was able to move his body to avoid it, but the vampire's boot still made contact, giving him a bad shearing cut on his shoulder.

Still gripping the chain, Lordgenome moved his arm to grab the vampire's leg, intending to roll backwards to better position himself on top of his opponent. From there, he'd put pressure with one hand at the knee and twist with the other to break more bones and leave Almos with only one good limb. The success of these actions hinged on the assumption that, with one arm broken and the hand of the other shattered, along with the chain subdued and the other leg a bit too far away to kick at the giant properly, there'd be very little resistance to it all. Hopefully, it would go off without a hitch, and he could commence with his finisher, then patch himself up before being picked up and returning to base.

He'd been unable to knock the brute out with his kick but the far more important goal had been accomplished, the giant had been forced to move his body to absorb the kick, giving Almos just enough wiggle room to pull his left arm free from underneath the giant. The left hand and right elbow may have been broken but his freedom was all that mattered. Unfortunately, the giant's reactions prevented him from having time to kick off and regain his footing. The Spiral King managed to grab a hold of the vampire's right leg, moving into a kneeling position on Almos' side to most likely disable the appendage as he'd done with the vampire's right arm. Oh no you don't! Lorand thought to himself. Though the American may have been holding the end of Enkidu, he was by no means in control of it. Additional links extended at blindingly fast speed to try and encircle Lordgenome's right wrist, pulling it back over his shoulder to prevent it from applying the necessary strike to break Almos' knee. Having extended plenty of links, another loop of Enkidu tried to find its way around the Spiral King's neck from behind like a noose. Should it find it's mark on a target already focused on restraining a tenacious vampire and maintaining control of his own right arm, the noose would immediately go taught to cut off the American's air flow and pull back to put him on his back for a change. To help matters, Almos threw in an enraged push kick with his left leg aimed at his opponent's lower right ribs. Not only was it a good spot to strike to push the man off, the ribs there were much smaller and easier to break, not to mention being in close proximity to the grievous wound from behind the vampire had already inflicted upon him.

That chains was becoming more annoying every minute. Trying to regain control of the situation and pulling his right arm back, his neck was caught by the extra loop. Kicked again, at least one rib broke as he fell back. This just wasn't going to do. He rolled to get back his foot, the pain in his side growing worse. Using that as motivation, he grabbed at the links digging into his throat, using the pain as an extra burst of strength to include his right hand in this endeavor. With all his might, he pulled at the chain from both sides, trying to free it from his neck and to rip it apart. In the long run, it would benefit him from not having to deal with that spike anymore, either.

(OOC) Lordgenome can bench something like 2 tons at this point. Up to you if that's enough to break a link.

Finally the behemoth was pushed back. Rolling back over his shoulder, Almos returned to his feet and tested his left hand, flexing it a bit to confirm that the bones had healed. In a moment or two his right arm would be restored as well. All in all it was a small price to pay for the injuries that he'd inflicted on his prey. Smirking at the giant's struggles against Enkidu, Lorand's amusement quickly warped to anger as some of the links finally gave out and fell to the ground lifeless. The obvious downside was the loss of the chain spike at the end of his weapon. The sole benefit was that now that the section binding Lordgenome had been snapped, Almos found an opportunity to retract the surviving links back into his sleeve and regain uninhibited control of his favored weapon.

Taking a deep breath to steady his fury, Almos slipped both of his hands into his pockets and began to leisurely walk towards the cliff side where he'd been enjoying the view prior to Lordgenome's arrival, keeping an eye on the American all the while and remaining well out of arm's reach. Licking a bit of the Spiral King's blood from his right hand, a knowing smile appeared on the former monk's face. "Haha, looks like you got quite the benefit out of your contract with the pagan gods eh? Lorand licked his lips and gave the giant another look as if studying some newly discovered facial feature. "Pity about your soul though, beginner mistake in the contract. However...it's not often I find others with connections as strong as yours. If you'd like, I could renegotiate you a proper contract,"

By now the vampire had reached the edge of the cliff, and stood with his back to the ocean, moon high in the sky above. "You're receiving the offer fit for a king friend. Walk away and never see me again. Follow me and reap the rewards of my knowledge. Or rise up and watch me devour you body and soul before the sun rises," Turning to the ocean, Almos called over his shoulder briefly. "The choice is yours Spiral King." With that the vampire stepped off the cliffside, grabbing onto the edge of it to swing himself inward to the mouth of the cave where he had been making his home for the last day or two.

The time to catch his breath was welcome, since the last stroke had left him tired. He planned to strike while the arrogant vampire talked, but what he said was somewhat interesting. As the creature jumped over the cliff, it seemed like he'd gone through with Lordgenome's own plan all on his own. Approaching the side to investigate, he noticed the cave, understanding what had happened.

The offer was something to think about. Either way, he was meant to kill this man, so hearing what else he had to say would be an easy way to lull him into a feeling of security if things went sour. Tearing pieces off his discarded cloak, he tied a strip tightly around his abdomen, folding another piece into a square and tucking it in to cover the hole in his side. That would help stop the bleeding and keep him moving long enough for more people to arrive and treat him properly. His legs had stopped bleeding on their own, but he still went through the process of lifting up his pant legs and patching them up as well. The extra time would work to his advantage, as well; he couldn't seem too eager to let the man speak.

After pressing a piece of cloth against his shoulder for a bit, he discarded it, feeling ready to continue pursuit. Dropping down, he went over the edge, catching the entrance to the cave and pulling himself inside. His head illuminated the area around him a bit, though most of the area was still in shadow. "I've either got time to kill or you," he boasted. "So, let's hear what you've got to say. It may amuse me." Taking a few more steps inside, a jolt of electricity ran through him, followed by a small static noise emitting from his collar. Flinching at the shock, he jabbed at the microphone around his neck. Attempting to call his "superiors" for an update on what had happened, he quickly realize it had stopped working. This was going much better than expected.

Entering his shelter, Almos moved towards the back of the cave. It was deep enough into the cliffside to shield him from the annoying rays of the sun in broad daylight and large enough to keep him from feeling smothered, easily more than twice his wing span and height as well. Hands in his pockets still, Almos leaned against the left side of the cave and awaited the arrival of his injured opponent or the sounds of his departure up above. After a short wait the giant did finally arrive, his collar sparking out of order. "Dog collar stopped working did it? Lucky you," he said, his voice dripping with condescension.

Eyeing the giant again, Almos kept his posture loose and relaxed, his broken arm having fully healed. For a brief moment, the vampire pondered his own motivations for even making such a generous offer. Perhaps a small glint of respect for a fellow user of the occult? No, that was unlikely. Concepts of fraternity like that had never been of much interest to him. More likely, it was boredom, a refreshing change from the endless cycle of murder and debauchery which Almos had chosen to fill his unlife with. Adding to that, he had to admit he was honestly interested to see what would happen.

"Save the boasting, American. We both know you've only got so long before whatever internal bleeding I caused puts you down. But if you're willing to cooperate, I'd be willing to alter the contract binding your soul to the pagan gods. All of your power and all of your soul could be yours," Almos shrugged slightly and tipped his head to the side to reassess Lordgenome's position in the cave just in case things got violent again. "In return you walk away and tell your allies that you killed me. I don't want you circus freaks on my back everytime that I get the urge to set foor on U.S. soil."

The idea of retrieving his soul was a tempting offer, though he wouldn't let it show on his face. "I can tell them you've died, but it would be up to you not to alert them to your presence again." Wanting to keep this as short as possible, since the longer his collar was out, the more suspicious the whole endeavor would seem, he approached the vampire. "Now, what's this about a contract?"

Scoffing a bit at the giant's question, Almos pushed off the cave wall to stand on his own power in the center of the hideaway, shoulders squared to Lordgenome. "Simply put, no supernatural being ever lends power with some strings attached. Vampires pay their humanity, clergy pay in prayers and faith in their God," Almos explained to the American, choosing to keep things as concrete as he could. No reason to complicate matters unnecessarily. "In your case, whoever performed your ritual established a spiritual contract with pagan dieties to make you a vessel for their powers. I have a ritual of my own that can rewrite the conditions of your contract and shape the payment more in your favor,"

Withdrawing his right hand from his pocket, he examined his nails and noticed a lingering spot of blood on his thumb. After licking it clean, he readdressed the Spiral King. "All I need you to do is sit still and clear you mind. You martial arts types know how to meditate don't you?"

He was skeptical of this whole idea. "Why should I trust that you won't simply kill me the moment I let my guard down? From where they were, the vampire could easily make it seem like both of them had gone down in the fight; himself dying shortly after tossing the vampire off the cliff and into the water. Fitting that that would be his way of taking care of the situation should things go sour. Last time he checked, vampires weren't too fond of the ocean.

Scoffing at the American's question, Almos shook his head and advanced towards Lordgenome a bit, never quite entering the larger man's striking range. "For all my faults, I am not so low as to rely on lies and deceit. When I want something I simply take it with my own two hands and force it to my will," Lorand replied, his hand briefly balling into a fist before relaxing once more as the vampire shrugged again. "Besides, it's in my best interest to keep those with ties to the pagan arts alive for the time being." Stretching out his left foot, Almos tapped it lightly against a spot on the cave floor between the two of them. "If you want your soul assume the lotus position there. If not get out of here before I pull out your spinal column."

Though no less suspicious, he decided to give this man the benefit of the doubt; warrior's comradery, or something like that. Taking the position, he inhaled to clear his mind. It took him virtually no time at all, since this was one of his most practiced abilities. His flame went out, plunging the cave back into darkness.

Dropping to one knee as the giant entered the lotus position, Almos immediately set about preparing the ritual. Cutting his palm, he traced a large circle in blood between himself and Lordgenome, muttering the ancient invocation rites as he did so. The flames illuminating the cave disappearing but it made no difference to the Hungarian vampire's eyes as he added the second layer to the sigil on the ground in the form of a large triangle. The temperature of the area was plunging at a frightening rate now and the slight light seeping in from the moon outside was quickly devoured entirely. The first step of the process would be turning back the clock, returning Lordgenome's thoughts to the day when he first received the powers he commanded. It was a necessary step to draw out the lingering desire of his essence on the other side to return to him. "Remember the men that did this to you. Remember what was taken from you. Picture it and nothing else," he said in a calm tone, continuing with his preparations.

Despite the temperature drop, the Spiral King was barely affected by it, due to the massive amounts of hair covering his body. The vampire's instructions were to drudge up old memories he'd long repressed. His days as a mere mortal had ended there. Even still, he made himself remember that night. The smell of the liquid concoction they drenched his body with came back to him. He remembered the chanting from the hooded men. The glow of the lines on the ground came back to him, followed by the intense pain of having part of his soul ripped away. The memory of his rage, too, came back to him, as well.

As the regrettable memories filled Lordgenome's psyche, Almos allowed himself a pleased grin. Throughout the cave, the same lines that had appeared during Lordgenome's original ceremony were beginning to appear. Pained voices could be heard as wisps on the wind flowing through the darkness. The forces that held the Spiral King's soul were coming. And they were not happy. Adding another layer to his blood sigil, Lorand advanced the ritual to it's next step. "The barrier between you and your lost pieces should be fading now. You should be able to feel it in the air nearby. Extend your presence and make contact with it. From there I can finish this," Almos instructed, pressing his bloody fingertips against the blood sigil and reciting more ancient dialects under his breath. These pagan forces were not too keen on giving up their payment for Lordgenome's powers but with this sigil they could be held in check...for a while at least.

It seemed like those memories were becoming reality once again. The voices of the cultists reverberated through the cave once again. He could feel the presence of the same beings his powers came from. He could also feel himself in that mass of darkness, and he wanted it back. He wanted more, too; more power would make him even more complete than before.

It was working perfectly so far. Just a bit more and he'd have this oaf's soul back in its proper resting place. Adding the final, inner most layer to his blood sigil, Almos pressed his entire palm against the symbol and chanted the final verse of the ritual. Raising his hand overhead, he brought it down firmly on the center of Lordgenome's bald head, leaving the same symbol in blood on Lordgenome's scalp. Withdrawing his hand, Almos stepped back to examine the fruits of his labor. The contract had been rewritten to return the Spiral King's property to him and the seal had opened the door for him to take it back. Now, it was just a matter of the American to take it for himself. "Reach out and grab it! Take back your soul, Spiral King!" the former monk instructed, awaiting the final results to manifest themselves.

He could see it now. As best a person could, at least. The amorphous forms of the creatures known as gods writhed in his mind. Inside them was a flicker of light; his soul. Reaching in, he grasped the small light, drawing it back into him. His soul returned, the gods wanted their half back, as well. They assaulted his mind, trying desperately to retrieve their powers. Lordgenome laughed, mentally giving one a lariat. Unfortunately, that was about all he could do, as their being gods was a bit too much for him to take down on his own. Fortunately, though, the one he'd attacked was coming with him. As the door closed, the new entity was drawn into his body. He fought for control, struggling against being taken. Trapping the creature inside himself, he awoken in the real world, roaring with laughter, flames erupting off his head bigger and brighter than before.

Standing up, fire still shooting from his scalp, he felt at peace for the first time since the incident. He was a whole person again. "You've proven your worth. I'll tell them you've died." Walking to the mouth of the cave, he remembered the sword he'd discarded at the start of the battle. Without a body, that would be the best proof of death he had. Climbing and sliding down to where it had stuck in the water, he pulled the Gold Saw up by the handle. Scaling the cliff once more, he pressed a button on the operational collar. "The target is dead. I retrieved that sword, as well." It would be some time before anyone arrived to take him back, giving him the chance to simply bask in his feeling of superiority.

Raising his eyebrows at the newfound excitement in the Spiral King, Almos could only smirk in response. Another satisfied customer, the vampire mused to himself as the bald man left the cave, promising to keep his end of the bargain. Strolling to the mouth of the cave, Lorand watched the American descend the cliff to recover the cyborg woman's sword. His interest in the sword having expired, Almos had no problems seeing it go if it meant getting the American's off his back. Still grinning from the mouth of the cave as Lordgenome began the climb back up, the vampire nodded his acknowledgement to the other man and gave him a half-hearted wave of dismissal before heading back into the cave. The sun would be rising in a bit and he had a red eye flight to catch. The professor's library had been informative, fitting well with the practical knowledge that Almos had amassed during his early years of study. There was just one more name in this particular field notable enough to bother tracking down, an individual who supposedly went on frequent expeditions himself to collect and organize ancient knowledge. Almos was headed to France.
